Step 1 - why did it block?
DPFs block because regeneration never finishes the job: a diet of short stop-start hops that never get the filter properly hot, a fault quietly cancelling regens (EGR, turbo, sensors), or a differential-pressure sensor telling porkies about how full it is. Fix the cause first - more on that in when a regen helps vs when it makes things worse and P2002 DPF efficiency.
Forcing regen after regen on a filter that keeps blocking is treating the symptom. If the cause is an EGR fault or a wrong sensor reading, you'll be back here in a fortnight - poorer, and no wiser.
Step 2 - clean, regen or replace?
Indicative UK costs (2026)
- Diagnostic + forced regen - from roughly £120-£200
- Off-vehicle DPF clean - around £250-£450
- DPF replacement (genuine) - £1,000+
Ranges vary by model and fault - a diagnostic gives you the real number for your van rather than a guess off a forum.
Removing a DPF from a road van is illegal in the UK and an automatic MOT failure - the test has checked for a fitted filter since 2014. We recover and repair filters to keep you legal, not quietly strip them out and hope nobody looks.
Book a DPF diagnostic - we find out why it blocked before recommending regen, clean or replace, mobile across Kent and SE London from £120+VAT.
