Is remapping a van illegal?

No - remapping itself is legal. What is illegal is removing or disabling emissions equipment such as the DPF, EGR or AdBlue system.

Will a remap fail the MOT?

Not if the emissions equipment is intact and within limits. Emissions deletes fail the MOT; a compliant tune passes like a standard van.

Do I have to tell the DVLA about a remap?

Not routinely - but you must tell your insurer, because a remap is a modification. We provide a written handover note for exactly that.

Is a Van Remap Legal? Will It Pass the MOT?

Yes - remapping a van is legal in the UK, and a properly done remap will sail through the MOT, provided the emissions equipment stays intact and you declare the modification to your insurer. What's illegal is removing emissions equipment - DPF, EGR or AdBlue/SCR deletes - which is an automatic MOT failure and an offence for road use. We don't do deletes, full stop, so our tunes keep your van firmly on the right side of the test bay.

What's legal

ECU remapping itself - tuning the engine map for economy or driveability is permitted.
Keeping emissions systems intact - our calibrations leave the DPF, EGR and AdBlue/SCR fully working.
Declaring it - a remap is a modification, so you must tell your insurer (what to declare).

What's not legal (and we won't do)

DPF removal/delete - illegal for road use; the MOT has checked for a fitted DPF since 2014, so it's an instant fail.
EGR delete, AdBlue (SCR) delete, decat - emissions tampering: MOT failure and an offence.

If a "tuner" offers deletes to chase bigger numbers, walk away. It puts your van off the road at MOT time and your business at risk if it's ever inspected - and it's exactly the corner-cutting we refuse to do.

Will it pass the MOT?

A compliant remap that keeps the emissions equipment in place and within limits passes the MOT like any standard van. The test checks the DPF is present and the van meets its smoke and emissions limits - not whether the engine map is factory-standard. We tune within conservative, emissions-safe parameters, so there's nothing for the test to catch.

The bottom line

A van remap is legal, MOT-safe and insurable when it keeps emissions kit intact and is declared. The only way to make it illegal is to start deleting things - which we don't.
